Stanford University Professor Jef Caers Delivers Lecture to GMIT Students

Professor Jef Caers, a renowned expert in Geophysics and Earth Sciences at Stanford University, USA, and Mongolian Parliament Members Ms. A. Undraa and Ms. B. Uyanga recently visited the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology. During the visit, Professor Jef Caers met with GMIT’s representatives, where he shared insights about his ongoing research projects and discussed potential future collaborations between the two universities.

Following the meeting, Professor Caers presented a lecture titled "AI and Data Science for Sustainable Mining: Global Trends and Mongolia’s Potential" to GMIT students and faculty. The lecture focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science in enhancing the sustainability of mining practices, with a particular emphasis on Mongolia's opportunities in this field. Professor Caers also engaged in an interactive session, answering questions from the audience and stimulating a lively discussion.

Professor Caers’ research primarily revolves around decision-making in uncertain conditions, with a focus on developing sustainable supplies of critical minerals and geothermal energy - key resources needed for the transition to 100% renewable energy. Additionally, he is the founder of Mineral-X, a global initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible mineral use, while advancing AI - and data-driven solutions for the mining industry. This platform also encourages collaboration between international scientists, governments, and the private sector.
