Aside from preparing students for the workforce, this graduate program also supports them by laying an academic foundation for further education and research careers. Graduates are expected to expand their knowledge in resources and technology, analyze complex situations considering technological, economic, and ecological factors, conduct applied research for societal progress, and effectively communicate research findings. Moreover, they will be empowered to optimize existing processes, develop new products and services, evaluate economic and environmental impacts, understand global markets, collaborate across disciplines, confidently present and defend ideas, and consider the ethical implications of technological advancements. In essence, the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Resources and Technology offers a robust platform for students to enhance their research skills, critical thinking abilities, and practical knowledge application. With its focus on interdisciplinary research, international partnerships, emphasis on hands-on experience, and alignment with industry requirements, it stands as a comprehensive and invaluable program for aspiring professionals in the realm of resources and technology.

The M.Sc. program places a strong emphasis on research by encouraging students to participate in interdisciplinary applied research projects. It provides clear guidance for individual study to ensure well-defined research objectives aligned with the central theme. This clarity facilitates hypothesis development, methodology design, and framework selection. By focusing on specific areas, students can delve deeply into particular aspects of a subject, contributing nuanced findings to the overall knowledge base. This specialization can drive significant advancements in a field by producing innovative solutions to complex challenges. Specialized expertise gained through targeted research efforts equips students with the tools to address critical issues in science, resources, and technology. Additionally, it establishes a solid foundation for potential doctoral pursuits at GMIT or other international universities.

Students are encouraged to cultivate independence and accountability within the program. The theoretical sessions and optional courses offered help hone their skills, enabling active engagement in research and critical evaluation while striving for academic excellence. The curriculum underscores a commitment to pursuing knowledge, critical thinking, and enhancing intellectual capacities. At the core of the master's program lies the development of analytical and critical thinking abilities. Students are urged to challenge assumptions, analyze complex issues thoroughly, and construct well-founded arguments to deepen their understanding of subjects and apply knowledge effectively in real-world scenarios. GMIT supports its master’s students in conducting groundbreaking research that addresses societal issues and contributes to global progress. This focus on research is complemented by state-of-the-art facilities and collaborative partnerships with partner universities.

The graduate program offers high-quality classes in research methodologies tailored for engineers and scientists, specialized elective courses, and the unique "Advanced Research Project". In 2022, GMIT placed significant emphasis on the successful completion of the "Advanced Research Project" in collaboration with the research unit of Erdenes Mongol. The results underscored the value of hands-on research experiences. Collaboration plays a vital role in this master's program: an initial "Structured Learning Agreement" between GMIT and THGA Bochum (Germany) highlights the university's commitment to fostering global partnerships and academic exchanges while streamlining student exchanges between both institutions. Partnerships with DAAD and German universities enhance the program's academic rigor and international reach while promoting innovative initiatives that are economically sustainable through research collaborations with companies.
