Research Projects

The GMIT's main research focuses are:

  • Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, covering automation and ensuring the safety of infrastructures, machinery, and buildings;
  • Mineral and natural resource processing to boost value chains in Mongolia;
  • Energy Systems in Mongolia, highlighting electrical energy systems, renewable energy production, and energy efficiency to support sustainable economic growth and environmental advancement;
  • Environmental preservation and pollution control measures, concentrating on water, soil, and air as crucial elements for public health and socio-economic progress;
  • Industrial manufacturing processes and their management customized to meet the specific requirements of Mongolian industry.

GMIT places a high priority on research activities spanning various fields, partnering with local and global universities, collaborating with industry partners, participating in international conferences, and contributing scholarly works in Mongolia. The core value of "sustainability" is ingrained in all academic programs, fostering strong partnerships across different disciplines. This value greatly influences faculty members, lecturers, lab assistants, and students in Environmental Engineering, particularly in practical and interdisciplinary research areas that focus on preserving clean air, soil, and water. GMIT has been actively involved in numerous research projects, publishing peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and scientific publications, as well as taking part in diverse conferences.

GMIT collaborates with industry, civil society, and research partners both locally in Mongolia and globally. Recently, they have worked on joint research projects with various Mongolian universities, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the mining industry, as well as state authorities and NGOs. Internationally, GMIT has conducted joint research with its German partner universities. Looking ahead, GMIT aims to establish a global research network with top universities and research institutions worldwide.

GMIT currently runs laboratories for teaching and research in chemistry, physics, material sciences, raw materials, environmental monitoring, and computing. Thanks to partnerships with institutions in Mongolia and Germany, GMIT has access to additional lab facilities. By 2026, cutting-edge laboratories will be set up in GMIT's new multi-purpose facility.

Expressions of interest for research collaboration from national and international partners are warmly welcomed by GMIT.
