Symposium on Sustainable Future: Nalaikh - Green University City was held at GMIT
[2024.11.08] The symposium titled "Sustainable Future: Nalaikh - Green University City" was held today with the goal of developing a model university city in the Nalaikh district of Ulaanbaatar, based on green development principles. The event was organized by the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT), with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Nalaikh District Governor's Office.
The event began with a tour of the Nalaikh district, where participants visited various key sites, including the closed mine, industrial park, thermal power plant, and renewable energy plant. In the main session of the symposium, representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Ministry of Regional Development, the National Institute, and the Mongolian Tax Administration discussed how the development policies for Nalaikh district align with national regional development strategies, as well as opportunities for green investment.
During the sub-sessions, lecturers, researchers, and experts from various institutions, including Chemnitz University of Technology, the School of Science at the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the Department of Education of Nalaikh District, GMIT, and the School of Construction and Architecture at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), discussed several topics. These included advanced green finance initiatives, population migration, the role of educational institutions in sustainable development, successful examples of university cities in Germany, and waste management in Nalaikh.
The symposium concluded with a poster presentation where students showcased new initiatives focused on achieving sustainable development goals. The main goal of the conference was to strengthen cooperation between all parties involved in creating a model city based on the principles of Green Development.
