GMIT Declares 2026–2027 the “Year of Digitalization” and Launches e-GMIT LMS

Ulaanbaatar, 1 September 2026 — The German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) has declared the 2026–2027 academic year the “Year of Digitalization”, marking an important step in the Institute’s efforts to enhance teaching and learning through digital technologies.

As part of the Year of Digitalization, GMIT will focus not only on introducing new technologies and digital systems, but also on transforming the ways in which teaching, learning, collaboration, and educational activities are organized and supported.

A major milestone in this process is the official launch of e-GMIT, GMIT’s Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS), during the opening of the new academic year.

e-GMIT — GMIT’s Digital Learning Environment

e-GMIT provides an integrated digital learning environment to support students, faculty, and the delivery of educational activities.

Through e-GMIT, students will be able to access course materials, submit assignments, participate in online learning activities, receive feedback, and view their grades and learning progress in one place.

For faculty members, the LMS provides opportunities to organize learning materials and activities more systematically, manage assignments and assessments digitally, and better support student participation and learning progress.

Digital and Blended Learning to Be Introduced in Phases

GMIT will introduce digital and blended learning gradually and in phases. This means that not all courses will immediately move to fully online or blended formats from the beginning of the new academic year.

In the first phase, a selected number of courses will serve as starting points for implementing and testing digital and blended learning approaches. Based on the experience gained and the results achieved, the range of courses and learning activities using these approaches will be gradually expanded.

The aim is to combine the strengths of face-to-face education with the opportunities offered by digital technologies to create a more learner-centered, flexible, and accessible learning environment.

Digital technologies will not simply replace classroom teaching. Rather, they will be used to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and flexibility of the learning experience.

Expanding Access to International eLearning Content

GMIT is also expanding its digital learning opportunities through international cooperation.

Under its cooperation agreement with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), selected eLearning courses focusing on workplace safety, industrial topics, and professional skills will be made available through the e-GMIT LMS in both Mongolian and English.

This cooperation will provide GMIT students, faculty and staff, industry partners, and other learners with greater access to internationally developed learning content through the Institute’s own digital learning environment.

The “Year of Digitalization” — The Beginning of Long-Term Transformation

The Year of Digitalization is not simply about introducing one new system or carrying out a one-year initiative. It marks the beginning of GMIT’s longer-term digital transformation.

Going forward, GMIT will continue to expand its collection of digital learning content, strengthen faculty digital competencies, develop blended learning practices, increase opportunities for online and short-term training, and promote lifelong learning.

Through these efforts, GMIT aims to build a flexible, accessible, innovative, and future-oriented learning environment that responds to the rapidly changing technological landscape.
