Mongolia Successfully Hosts MIMC 2026 International Mathematics Competition for the First Time
Mongolia has opened a new chapter in its intellectual sports history by successfully hosting the MIMC 2026 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for the first time. Recognized as one of the world's most prestigious mathematics competitions for primary and lower secondary school students, the event was held from July 22–27, 2026, at the campus of the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) in Nalaikh District, Ulaanbaatar.
The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) consists of two main divisions:
* EMIC – Key Stage II Division (Upper Primary Education)
* IWYMIC – Key Stage III Division (Lower Secondary Education)
Both divisions feature individual and team competitions, requiring all participants to compete in both formats and providing a comprehensive mathematical experience.
Originally established as the "International World Youth Mathematics Competition (IWYMIC)" in Taiwan in 1999 and later joined by the "Elementary Mathematics International Contest (EMIC)" in 2003, the two competitions were officially unified in 2008 under the International Mathematics Competition (IMC). Since then, IMC has become a globally recognized platform celebrating mathematical excellence and fostering international friendship among young mathematicians.
This year's competition brought together more than 1,000 students, teachers, team leaders, judges, parents, and delegates from 32 countries, creating an outstanding platform not only for mathematical excellence but also for strengthening international cooperation in education and cultural exchange.
As part of the competition program, international participants arrived in Mongolia between July 22 and 26. On July 23, the traditional Puzzle Challenge, designed to test participants' logical thinking and teamwork skills, was successfully held, followed by the official opening ceremony of MIMC 2026.
The opening ceremony showcased Mongolia's rich cultural heritage through traditional long-song performances, morin khuur music, folk dance, and equestrian circus performances, offering international guests a unique introduction to Mongolia's nomadic culture. Representing contemporary Mongolian music, the internationally acclaimed band The HU delivered a special performance, creating one of the highlights of the opening ceremony by blending Mongolia's traditional and modern cultural identity.
Competition Concludes Successfully
After several days of competition, "MIMC 2026" concluded successfully, recognizing outstanding young mathematicians from around the world.
Mongolian students achieved remarkable results:

* 🥉 22 Bronze Medals
During the closing ceremony, gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with certificates, were presented to the top-performing participants. Appreciation was also extended to the teachers, coaches, judges, organizers, and volunteers whose dedication contributed to the successful organization of the competition.
The successful hosting of MIMC 2026 was made possible through the collaboration of more than 30 public and private organizations, together with numerous professionals and volunteers, making the event a milestone not only for education but also for Mongolia's international reputation.
