GMIT Rector Prof. B. Battsengel Delivers Keynote Speech at ADINTECH 2026
ADINTECH 2026, an international conference bringing together researchers, academics, and professionals in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, smart systems, IoT, robotics, renewable energy, and other emerging technologies, is taking place at the National University of Mongolia from August 19–22, 2026.
As part of the conference, Prof. B. Battsengel, Rector of the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT), delivered a keynote speech titled “AI-Driven Smart Mining and Critical Minerals Trends in the Energy Transition.”
The global transition toward clean energy and digital economies is driving rapidly growing demand for critical minerals, including rare earth elements (REEs), lithium, copper, molybdenum, and fluorspar. Ensuring a sustainable and resilient supply of these resources has therefore become a strategic priority worldwide.
In his keynote, Prof. B. Battsengel highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies in transforming traditional mining into intelligent, data-driven systems.
The presentation explored AI applications across the entire mining value chain—from mineral exploration and resource modelling to mineral processing and supply chain optimisation. Machine learning can support predictive geological modelling, real-time monitoring, automation, and improved operational efficiency, creating new opportunities for safer, more sustainable, and more productive mining operations.
In this context, GMIT is actively contributing to research on critical minerals, with a particular focus on resource efficiency, digital transformation, and sustainable mining practices. Ongoing research at GMIT addresses key challenges in mineral processing, data integration, and the application of advanced technologies in resource-rich regions.
By integrating AI with natural resource engineering, GMIT’s research highlights a pathway toward environmentally responsible, energy-efficient, and transparent mineral supply chains. This approach positions smart mining as a key enabler of a sustainable global energy future.
ADINTECH 2026 provides an important international platform for exchanging knowledge and exploring how emerging technologies can contribute to sustainable development, industrial transformation, and the future of resource-intensive industries.
